thiruvathavoorar born in this place .he worshiped the eswarar of this temple,he heard the sound the challankai[anklet] of the NATARAJAR here as boy. later he recoganised the same sound when passing THIRUPERTHURAI as a minister of pandia king under a KURUNTHA TREE where LORD SIVA was seated .

    thiruvathavoor temple is a sacred one found by Manickavasagar and also known as thirumarainathar temple. here you have one seperate sannidhi for Lord Saneeswarar. Lord Saneeswarar was cursed and became physically handicapped and he came to thrivathavoor and worshipped Lord Vedhapurieeswarar and got the curse cured. You have to pray the Lord Saneeswarar Sannidhi by lighting a lamp and pray for recovery. It is beleived that it is cured remarkably. This temple is located nearly 25 kms from Madurai and you have bus service from Mattuththaavani bustand(direct bus) or you have to go to Othhakadai and take a share auto. Myfamily and my friend, and antoher friends family been to this temple on the 8th of November and had a wondrful dharshan.
